Antonio Callaway Suspended For Violation Of League’s Substance Abuse Policy

Antonio Callaway, Cleveland Browns Wide Receiver, has been suspended four (4) games for violation of the NFL’s Substance Abuse Policy. The suspension is without pay. Callaway will be eligible to return to the active roster on Monday, September 30, 2019, following the Sunday game against the Baltimore Ravens on the 29th.

The substance for which Callaway is suspended is not known but it is speculated that it is for marijuana as he has had marijuana issues in the past. In addressing his suspension, Callaway stated:

“I take full responsibility for my actions. I made a mistake and I own that. I have taken steps to make myself better and I appreciate the Browns standing by me and supporting me during this time. I know there’s nothing I can say to regain trust; it will all be about my actions.”

During the suspension, Callaway is eligible to participate in all preseason practices and games. This will be an opportunity for some of the young, lesser-known receivers in camp to step up and earn a roster spot, like the talented Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi.
